About First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church of St. Louis is a multi-generational, multi-cultural, social justice–seeking church with a big heart. Our members reside in more than 19 different zip codes across the St. Louis area, but we are drawn together by common interests and values. Far from formal and austere, as our building would first have you believe, this vibrant, faithful congregation thrives with love for one another and for God.

First Pres is an open, friendly faith community made up of diverse people who like to think for themselves but worship God together. As Christians we believe we are called to use our talents and resources to deepen our relationship with God, build a loving church family, work for social justice, and reach out to our broader community.

Worship

Worship at First Pres weaves together old traditions and new ideas. We have a deeply devoted congregation that participates fully in the worship experience, and worship at First Pres is as diverse as our members. Old traditions and new ideas meld to form a base of comfort and closeness. We share communion the first Sunday of each month, and all are welcome to participate. Congregants are comfortable participating in worship as lay liturgists or readers, presenting the children’s sermon, or delivering the prayers of the people.

Music

The Music Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of St. Louis is dedicated to making the experience of worship meaningful and spiritually uplifting for people of varying backgrounds. Music is woven throughout our worship, relating specifically to the texts and sermon. We explore the music of the people of God in lots of different ways: congregational song, children’s music, choir, dance, handbells, Orff, piano, pipe organ. There are music-making opportunities for all ages offered throughout the year. The Music Ministry programming is designed with an open-door policy in mind – perfect for those who want to make music, but cannot participate on a weekly basis.

Special Services

In addition to our weekly worship Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m., there is a Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion service and Holy Week worship opportunities.
